Born in Richmond, Virginia, Kim lived in a different state throughout her childhood. Home has been everywhere from New York to South Carolina, where she currently resides. Being the daughter of a Navy man
introduced her at an early age to a life on the move—it may also have planted the seeds of her interest in the military. After graduation in Nashville, Tennessee, she briefly entertained the pursuit of a music career, but quickly found that her first and foremost
passion was writing. To that end, she moved to London, England where she pitched a book about the British music scene to a Sixties’ super group. Poised to release a similar project of its own, the band ultimately passed, but Kim
used the experience to launch
her next undertaking. As music had always been a driving force, it then
became a different kind of backdrop for a new book. Having become
professionally acquainted with the Tour Coordinator for Bruce Springsteen, the
concept of building a book around his song lyrics generated the story of four
characters whose paths cross and become entwined in a drug-smuggling conspiracy.
Kim met Hawke while traveling and researching the narcotics plot, and
Greetings From Jungleland eventually gave way to their joint creation, IN THE DARK OF
THE SUN, and subsequent development of the series and proposed motion picture.
Kim is an accomplished photographer, specializing in landscape—particularly roses, where she has seen commercial success with photographs of many of the hundreds she once grew. She created a book of her rose photography and
prose, entitled SEASONS OF THE ROSE. |
